Devin Neal

Devin Neal

Running BackRB
Kansas Jayhawks
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Neal gets better with age, as he followed up his first 1,000-yard rushing season in 2022 with 203 carries for 1,280 yards and 16 touchdowns in 2023. He also had a career year in the passing game, boasting 25 catches on 34 targets for 217 yards and a touchdown. QB Jalon Daniels will return from a back injury and will be the subject of much of the media's attention. However, Neal is the soul of this Jayhawks team. That shouldn't shock those who know head coach Lance Leipold, who routinely relied on his running backs in his coaching stint at Buffalo from 2015-20. Neal can potentially be one of the best running backs in the country as he aims to justify his early-round cost in fantasy drafts. Read Past Outlooks
Breaks school records in win
November 10, 2024
Neal logged 18 carries for 116 yards and two touchdowns and gathered in 2 of 3 targets for 22 yards during Saturday's 45-36 win over Iowa State.
ANALYSIS
Neal surpassed June Henley's rushing records and became Kansas' top rusher all-time in yards and touchdowns. The senior back now has 3,951 yards rushing and 43 touchdowns which are both school records. In a dominant offensive performance, Neal racked up his sixth 100-yard rushing performance and his third game with multiple scores. Kansas will play at undefeated BYU next week.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2023
2022
Neal followed up his impressive freshman debut in 2021 with a successful 1,000-yard rushing effort which earned the sophomore third-team conference honors last year. He was far more efficient behind a strong offensive line in 2022 at 6.06 yards per carry which ranked fourth in the conference for running backs with at least 50 carries. The only backs who were better were Eric Gray (6.41), Kendre Miller (6.25), and Bijan Robinson (6.12). All those backs moved on to the play on Sundays, so there’s a chance Neal can be one of the best in the conference. While Neal will certainly split carries with Daniel Hishaw, it shouldn’t worry fans much as Kansas’ offense will be one of the best in the conference. Neal and Hishaw will run behind a great offensive line which includes four returning starters and former five-star lineman Logan Brown transferring in from Wisconsin.
Neal burst on to the scene during his true freshman season with 707 yards and eight touchdowns to go along with 57 yards and a score on seven catches, including a season-high 143 yards and three touchdowns in the Week 11 upset at Texas. There's little doubt he'll start leading the way in Lance Leipold's run-first offensive scheme, but he will have some competition with Minnesota transfer, Ky Thomas, and Nebraska transfer, Sevion Morrison. Expect Neal, Thomas and Morrison to all receive significant work during the 2022 season.
