2024 Fantasy Outlook
Since stepping foot on an NFL field for the first time in 2021, Winfield has emerged as one of the most well-rounded safeties in the league. He took another step forward in 2023, tallying career-high marks in tackles, sacks, passes defensed, interceptions and both forced and recovered fumbles. His sacks in particular look to be sustainable, as he found himself playing in the box at the highest rate of his career last season. This offseason, Winfield landed a four-year, $84.1 million contract in the offseason - the highest figure ever for a defensive player. Needless to say, he'll be the leader of the Buccaneers defense for the foreseeable future. The only thing that has slowed Winfield down to this point in his career is injuries, as he was limited to 13 games in both 2021 and 2022. Read Past Outlooks
Doesn't practice Wednesday
Winfield (foot) was listed as a DNP for Wednesday's practice, Jenna Laine of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Winfield sustained a foot injury in Week 1 against the Broncos. The injury had an estimated return of 3-to-4 weeks, with two weeks considered a "best-case" scenario, per Laine. Winfield is unlikely to play Week 3 against the Broncos, but the 2020 second-round pick could return to practice in a limited capacity Thursday or Friday.

Winfield remains an enticing fantasy option after the biggest names at DB are off the board. The Minnesota product has missed four games to injury each of the last two seasons, but when he's on the field his production has been excellent. His tackle rate in 2022, translated to 1,000 snaps, would have put him in triple digits, and he added a career-high four sacks to his ledger. Those sacks may not be repeatable as he transitions back to free safety, but coach Todd Bowles seems to value his versatility, and Tampa Bay doesn't have a lot of talent at safety to challenge his workload.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could reset safety market
Winfield could reset the market as the highest-paid safety in the NFL if he and the Buccaneers agree to a contract extension, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.
ANALYSIS
Winfield is likely to receive the franchise tag by Tuesday, but he and the team continue to negotiate a contract extension in the meantime. After a stellar 2023 season in which he had 122 tackles, 6.0 sacks, six forced fumbles and three interceptions, Winfield would likely surpass Derwin James' $19 million annual salary if the former signs an extension with the Buccaneers.
