2024 Fantasy Outlook
The 12th pick in this year’s draft, Nix seemingly has little competition for the starting job in Denver with only career backup Jarrett Stidham and first-round bust Zach Wilson standing in his way. Nix’s best attribute is avoiding negative plays, as he threw 26 INTs in five years as a collegiate starter and took 10 sacks in two years at Oregon. Nix is a skilled passer, though he doesn’t have the arm talent of the other first-round quarterbacks from the 2024 Draft. Oregon’s offense didn’t ask him to do much downfield, instead relying on a heavy diet of screen passes and quick throws, which explains how he set the NCAA single-season record for completion percentage (77.4) last season. Indeed, his 6.8-yard average target depth was the lowest in this year’s draft. At 6-2, 214, Nix is reasonably athletic and can throw on the run but lacks an elite trait. Nix's quick release and processing ability could make him a good fit for Sean's Payton offense -- a la Drew Brees in his later years -- and if anyone is NFL ready it should be Nix, whose 61 starts were an NCAA record for a QB. The Broncos drafted Oregon teammate Troy Franklin in the fourth round to join Courtland Sutton in an otherwise lackluster wideout corps, and Nix should add some rushing stats after posting 1,613 yards and 38 TDs in college. RANKS
Picked twice in loss
Nix completed 20 of 35 passes for 246 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's 13-6 loss to the Steelers. He added four rushes for 25 yards.
ANALYSIS
Nix struggled throughout the game, as he ended the first half with only seven completions for 39 yards. He picked up his performance a bit in the final two quarters, though he threw a key pick in the end zone halfway through the third quarter, significantly changing the momentum of a two-possession deficit. Nix's line also benefitted from a 49-yard completion that came on a trick play two calls earlier. Nix has had a tough start to his pro career, failing to throw a touchdown across two games while being picked off four times. He's also averaging only 5.0 yards per attempt.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Given long leash as starter
Nick Kosmider of The Athletic relays that Broncos owner Greg Penner will give Nix plenty of opportunities to work through his mistakes during his rookie campaign.
ANALYSIS
Kosmider notes that young quarterbacks nowadays don't get as much leeway as they used to, pointing out that five of the nine quarterbacks drafted in the first round from 2021 to 2023 are no longer with the team that selected them. Penner praised the "poise and maturity" Nix showed during his quarterback battle with Jarrett Stidham during training camp, and the Broncos owner appears to be in favor of allowing the No. 12 pick of the 2024 NFL Draft to go through the "ups and downs" in the upcoming season.
