2024 Fantasy Outlook
Powell saw extensive action last season in three-wide sets when Justin Jefferson missed two-plus months with a hamstring injury. His 407 offensive snaps were a career high and he caught 29 of 44 targets for 324 yards and one touchdown while adding five carries for 17 yards. His primary role beforehand was as Minnesota's punt returner. The departure of K.J. Osborn (New England) in free agency leaves Powell as a candidate for the No. 3 receiver role. He'll compete against Jalen Nailor and Trent Sherfield in training camp for the job and likely retain punt return duties. Read Past Outlooks
RANKS
Two receptions as No. 3 WR
Powell had two receptions for 16 yards on two targets in Sunday's win over the 49ers. He also had one punt return for 10 yards.
ANALYSIS
Powell worked as the third receiver with Jalen Nailor starting opposite Justin Jefferson with Jordan Addison (ankle) sidelined. Powell could move into the starting lineup if both Addison and Justin Jefferson (quad) are sidelined Week 3 against Houston.

2019
Since joining the Rams' practice squad in November 2021 and eventually the team's active roster for good in January 2022, Powell served as the team's primary kick and punt returner. He also got more involved on offense last year, recording career highs across the board (24-156-0 on 32 targets, 17-80-0 on the ground). He signed with the Vikings in the offseason and will compete for the fourth WR role, but is more likely to get his action on special teams. Powell is unlikely to unseat Kene Nwangwu -- who has three career return touchdowns -- as the primary kick returner, but he should have a good chance to win the punt-returning gig over Jalen Reagor.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
May expand return duties
Alec Lewis of The Athletic believes Powell may be tasked with handling both punt and kickoff return duties after the Vikings waived Kene Nwangwu on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Nwangwu was subsequently claimed by the Saints, leaving Minnesota in search of a new kickoff returner just as the amount of kickoff returns is expected to increase significantly compared to the last few seasons due to a rule change. Powell is a candidate to fill that role, as the wide receiver is already expected to return punts this season. The other top candidate currently on the roster to return kickoffs is running back Ty Chandler. However, Minnesota has only two running backs on the roster after cutting Nwangwu, which may dissuade the Vikings from risking an injury at the position on special teams.
