Rest-of-Season Projections
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Barnes put together his most productive season as a pro in 2023, recording a career-high 81 tackles, including a sack, while also forcing a fumble over 16 contests with the Lions. Operating without James Houston, who missed nearly the entire regular season with an ankle injury, Jack Campbell and Barnes were the undisputed top options at linebacker alongside MLB Alex Anzalone. With Houston back in the fold in 2024, it's possible that Barnes will see a slight reduction in his snap count, but he nonetheless figures to be a productive asset for coach Dan Campbell's defense. Could return later in season
Barnes (knee) said Wednesday that he's not ruling out a return from injured reserve later this season, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
ANALYSIS
Barnes has been sidelined since the Lions' win over the Cardinals in Week 3, when he sustained injuries to his MCL and PCL. While he indicated he has a chance to play again in 2024, his odds of doing so would appear to be slim. Through the first three games of the season, the fourth-year linebacker recorded 10 tackles and one pass breakups across 114 defensive snaps.

2021
Seeing over 100 less defensive snaps in 2022 than his rookie year in 2021, Barnes has been in and out of Detroit's starting lineup since entering the league. Unfortunately, he'll find snaps even harder to come by in 2023 after the extension of Alex Anzalone and the first-round selection of Jack Campbell. In the end, it may be a stretch to think he can approach the 400ish defensive snaps he has seen in each of his first two campaigns.
