Rest-of-Season Projections
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Greenlaw suffered a torn Achilles in Super Bowl LVIII which required surgery in the offseason. The physical linebacker has since ditched his walking boot, but his status for the start of the 2024 season remains in question. Once he's ready, Greenlaw figures to serve as a starter alongside Fred Warner as an every-down linebacker. Free-agent acquisition De'Vondre Campbell likely will fill Greenlaw's role until he's healthy. Read Past Outlooks
Will start regular season on PUP
Greenlaw (Achilles) was placed on the reserve/PUP list Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Greenlaw is recovering from a Achilles' injury sustained during the Super Bowl loss the Chiefs in February. The 27-year-old did not practice during training camp while on the active/PUP list, and he'll now be forced to miss the first four games of the regular season as he continues recovering. Greenlaw's first chance to return will come against the Cardinals on Sunday, Oct. 6. In the meantime, expect De'Vondre Campbell and Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles to fill in alongside star middle linebacker Fred Warner (foot).

Greenlaw got healthy last year after missing all but three games in the 2021 season, posting a new career-high in tackles (127) over 15 active games. He also brought the physicality, forcing two fumbles while recording a pick-six (the second of his four-year career). Fred Warner is the big name on San Francisco's linebacking crew, but Greenlaw proved that he can play at a near Pro-Bowl level alongside the team's defensive leader, so long as the 26-year-old stays on the field.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Likely to miss start of season
Greenlaw is still progressing through his recovery from the Achilles tear he suffered in the Super Bowl, and he'll likely begin the season on the PUP list, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Placement on the PUP list would cost the linebacker at least the first four games of the season. Greenlaw was able to shed a walking boot in May, but with training camp just around the corner, he's running out of time to get fully healthy. The 49ers signed De'Vondre Campbell this offseason to help fill the void in the middle of the defense while Greenlaw remains unavailable.
