2024 Fantasy Outlook
Stick was mediocre at best after taking over in Week 14 last year after Justin Herbert was lost for the season. He finished with a 6.9 average target depth and 6.5 YPA with all three of his TD passes coming in his first start -- a 63-21 loss at the Raiders. He returns this season to back up Herbert again, though he will do so with an unimpressive group of receivers, and with new coach Jim Harbaugh and new running backs Gus Edwards and J.K. Dobbins, the Chargers are likely to be more run-heavy this season anyway. Stick’s mobility gives him a bit of upside (nearly 30 rushing yards per game last season), but if Herbert goes down again, the Chargers likely won’t ask Stick to do much. Read Past Outlooks
RANKS
Goes distance in preseason finale
Stick completed 12 of 29 passes for 187 yards, a touchdown and an interception in Saturday's 26-19 preseason win over the Cowboys. He added 17 rushing yards on four carries.
ANALYSIS
It was a poor performance through the air for Stick, but he didn't need to do much due to Trey Lance throwing five INTs for Dallas, and Derius Davis and Simi Fehoko scoring a couple long TDs in the first half. Stick appears to be locked into the No. 2 quarterback role, but Justin Herbert (foot) is on track to be ready for Week 1 and the Chargers will be hoping his backup isn't needed for extensive action again as he was late in 2023.

Stick signed a modest one-year, $1.8 million deal this offseason presumably to back up Justin Herbert after spending his first couple of campaigns as the team's third-string option. As a result, the 2019 fifth-round pick has played just two regular-season snaps thus far in his NFL career, but he does have some notable positive traits, including a level of mobility that make him a dual-threat signal-caller. Now that Chase Daniel is no longer on the roster, expect Stick and 2023 rookie Max Duggan to compete for the top backup spot behind the Chargers' Pro Bowler.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Likely stepping in for Herbert
Stick is presumably in position to take first-team reps at quarterback while Justin Herbert is sidelined with a plantar fascia injury to his right foot, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Stick finished last season as the Chargers' starter with Herbert sidelined due to a finger injury, but that was naturally under the previous coaching regime. However, even with Jim Harbaugh now at the helm in Los Angeles, Stick's experience, modest as it is, still trumps that of fellow backups Max Duggan and Casey Bauman and figures to therefore give him first crack at serving as Herbert's fill-in for at least two weeks. Stick completed 63.8 percent of his passes with three touchdowns and one interception while adding 144 rushing yards and another score over his five total regular-season appearances in 2023.
