Making push for bigger role
Odum's performance in training camp could put him in line for a bigger role in the San Francisco defense to begin the season, David Lombardi of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The 30-year-old is currently listed as the starting strong safety on San Francisco's unofficial depth chart, suggesting that he'll be first in line to start if Talanoa Hufanga (knee) hasn't completed his recovery from a torn ACL by the time the regular season gets underway. Odum has taken advantage of his increased reps with the first-team defense thus far in camp, recording a handful of interceptions. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said he wants Odum on the field more, noting last week that "we're going to try and find a way to put [Odum] on both [defense and special teams]."
