Jamin Davis

25-Year-Old Defensive EndDE
Washington Commanders
2024 Fantasy Outlook
The Commanders took a risk back in 2021, selecting Davis in the first round after he had just one season as a full-time starter in college but put up incredible numbers at the combine. His 4.47 speed and 42-inch vertical jump haven't been much use in the pros, with Davis struggling both in pass coverage and against the run. He's been better as a blitzer, but now he's looking at a big reduction in snap count after the Commanders signed LBs Bobby Wagner and Frankie Luvu this offseason. Davis doesn't figure to get much playing time in nickel packages if Wagner and Luvu are healthy. Read Past Outlooks

Coach's Decision
September 15, 2024
Davis (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Giants, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Davis has started in 28 games for the Commanders over the last two seasons, but he did not start in Week 1 against the Buccaneers and he finished the contest with three tackles (two solo) while playing just 16 snaps (13 on defense, three on special teams). With Washington going to a 3-4 scheme under head coach Dan Quinn, Davis doesn't appear to have an established role in the defense to start the regular season. The 2021 first-round pick's next chance to suit up is Week 3 against the Bengals on Sept. 23.

Past Fantasy Outlooks

2021
Washington took Davis 19th overall in the 2021 Draft after he ran a 4.47 40 at the Kentucky Pro Day at 234 pounds (he also had a 132-inch broad jump and 42-inch vertical). He took on a 59 percent snap share as a rookie and went up to 85 percent last season, mostly playing alongside Cole Holcomb, who now is with the Steelers after averaging 9.2 tackles per game his final two years in Washington. Davis averaged 7.9 tackles after Holcomb's season-ending injury Week 7 of 2022, and further progress could be coming this year as the 24-year-old continues to handle the green dot and an every-down role.
Davis took his lumps as a rookie, coming in as a first-round pick after one of the best-ever combine workouts by a linebacker (4.47 40, 42-inch vertical, 132-inch broad jump). He started eight of 16 games and averaged 4.8 tackles per contest, with a 56.4 percent snap share for the year. Not bad, but not what you want from a first-round pick. Davis, of course, has the tools to be a standout IDP if he secures a three-down role and continues to improve.
Davis taps a few different scouting cliches, alternately described as a "one-year wonder" or a "workout warrior." Whatever the case, he was dominant in his final season at Kentucky (102 tackles, three interceptions in 10 games) and arguably even more dominant at his pro day, where he put up a 4.48 40-yard dash and 42-inch vertical jump, despite weighing a solid 234 pounds. The size-speed combination gives Davis the ceiling of a dominant, three-down linebacker in the Urlacher/Willis/Wagner mold, but he's far from a sure thing as a prospect, given his lack of production and playing time in college before 2020. If nothing else, the draft spot should ensure Davis gets on the field this year, potentially even as a Week 1 starter. He's the upside IDP play in a LB group that otherwise features Jon Bostic and Cole Holcomb as the likely starters in the base defense.

Shifting role

June 25, 2024
Davis was used primarily as an edge rusher during mandatory minicamp, John Keim of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The Commanders aggressively added to their linebacker corps this offseason, leaving Davis' position in flux after was drafted as a middle linebacker back in 2021. He is adjusting well to the new role and is reportedly excited about the switch. Davis has only seven sacks across his first 45 games in the NFL, but that should change in 2024.
