Williams has a big opportunity to claim a starting role at cornerback in 2024 with L'Jarius Sneed moving off to Tennessee. Williams was a rotational player for most of his first two NFL campaigns, so he's not a lock to win the battle to start, with Jaylen Watson and Nazeeh Johnson serving as his main competition. Williams (hamstring) was left off Kansas City's injury report Monday ahead of Thursday night's regular-season opener against Baltimore, Matt McMullen of the Chiefs' official site reports.

Williams has been dealing with a hamstring issue since mid-August, but it now appears he's fully recovered after being left off the Chiefs' injury report Monday. With the departure of L'Jarius Sneed this past offseason, Williams is projected to play a bigger role in Kansas City's secondary in 2024, starting opposite All-Pro Trent McDuffie.

Turron Davenport and Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Friday that the long-expected trade of Sneed was finalized and the veteran cornerback would be signing a new contract with Tennessee. For the time being, Sneed's departure from the back-to-back defending champions tees up Williams to step into a starting role after recording 58 tackles, one interception and 11 additional defensed passes over 33 games across his first two seasons.
