Rest-of-Season Projections
2024 Fantasy Outlook
After signing a one-year deal with Washington in March, Mariota will back up No. 2 overall pick Jayden Daniels. In Mariota's last two years as a Week 1 starter -- 2019 in Tennessee and 2022 in Atlanta -- he lost the job before the season was out. Last season was spent backing up Jalen Hurts in Philadelphia. Mariota is a capable game manager, but he takes a lot of sacks and struggles with downfield accuracy, and he's often been plagued by injuries during his 10-year career. He's still mobile, though, so perhaps his rushing ability will lead to fantasy value if he ends up filling in for Daniels at some point. Read Past Outlooks

After going two seasons without a start, Mariota spent most of last year as Atlanta's top quarterback. He started 13 games before being benched for rookie Desmond Ridder and finished the year on injured reserve due to a knee injury. His performance in those outings makes it easy to see why he'll be back in a reserve role this fall, backing up Jalen Hurts for the Eagles. Mariota's mobility makes him a good fit as Hurts' main reserve, as his 438 rushing yards in 2022 ranked sixth among all QBs, but he didn't do much with his arm. He ranked 30th in passing yards per game (170.7), clearing 200 yards just three times and topping out at 253. He added 15 touchdowns and nine picks.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Set to split reps with Daniels
Commanders head coach Dan Quinn said Tuesday that Mariota and Jayden Daniels will split first-team reps to begin training camp, Albert Breer of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Daniels is the presumptive favorite to begin the regular season as Washington's starting quarterback, and the 2024 second overall pick got most of the first-team opportunities during June minicamp. However, Mariota will get a chance to stake his claim to the starting role during training camp and preseason. Mariota was drafted second overall himself nine years prior to Daniels, and the veteran quarterback has started 74 regular-season games. Daniels' proclivity for taking big hits rather than sliding was one of the biggest drawbacks on his college tape, so it's possible Mariota will be thrust into action in 2024 even if Daniels ultimately wins the Week 1 starting job.
