2024 Fantasy Outlook
On the surface, Williams took a significant step backward in 2023, as his sack total dropped from 12.5 in 2022 to 5.0. While that was disappointing, his ability to impact the quarterback suggests his production will tick back up in 2024. Wiliams recorded 53 quarterback hurries (per PFF) - only Aaron Donald had more among interior linemen - and also had a pass-rush win rate of 19.5 percent - third-highest among interior defensive linemen. The situation around him also improved despite some offseason departures, as the Jets added Javon Kinlaw to pair with Williams on the interior, a move that should help take some attention away from him. The best thing about Williams' profile is that even if his sack total remains relatively flat, he remains an elite run stuffer and will undoubtedly be a centerpiece of New York's defense. Williams has been a key part of the Jets' defensive line since he was selected in the first round of the 2019 draft, though 2023 marked a breakout season for him. He played in a career-high 16 games and 665 snaps. While that didn't lead to a significant increase in raw tackle output, Williams posted 12 sacks after combining to record 15.5 sacks across his first three campaigns. New York rewarded him with a four-year, $96 million contract. Presumably, Williams will remain a big part of the team's pass rush as a result and is a decent bet to remain productive even if he can't exactly replicate 2022's stat line.
As easy as it is to look at Williams’ numbers and see nothing special, the finer details say an eruption is not far off. He just turned 24 in December and played through a shoulder issue last year, yet his per-snap production was very good, and if his snap count increases so will the other stats. If you prorate his stats from the last two years over 750 snaps you get about 75 tackles and nine sacks. It won’t be long now.
Williams is one of the league's top interior defensive line talents, and he might break out more properly in 2021 under new coach Robert Saleh. Saleh was hired in large part for his defensive background, and if the Jets defense improves it will have a lot to do with Williams' contributions. He quietly produced at a rapid rate last season, totaling 55 tackles and seven sacks on just 586 snaps. Williams should push for 750 snaps or more this season, and with that workload his ceiling is heightened accordingly. DL1 upside is possible in most IDP formats.
Williams' rookie season was disrupted by an ankle injury and a stinger, but the third overall selection in the 2019 draft still showed promise in his role as a rotational lineman. He finished with 28 tackles and 2.5 sacks in 13 games and should take on a significantly larger role in his second season if he can stay on the field. An offseason arrest for bringing luggage containing a weapon that was registered in Alabama into New York's LaGuardia Airport is not expected to impact Williams' availability, so expect him to hit the ground running when football activities begin.
Williams only started at Alabama for one year, but his performance in that season (eight sacks, 19.5 tackles for loss) was enough to rocket him up draft boards into the top three selections of 2019. Picked third overall by the Jets, the 6-3, 303-pound defensive lineman should help clog up running lanes while also generating an interior pass rush. While interior linemen haven't been premier IDP options in the past, Aaron Donald changed that thinking and Williams will be hoping to follow in his footsteps.

Improving as pass rusher
DTNew York Jets
June 25, 2024
Williams has focused on adding to his pass-rushing moves this offseason, Caroline Hendershot of the Jets' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Williams had a breakout 2022 season from a pass-rushing perspective, as he tallied a career-best 12 sacks. However, he failed to surpass seven sacks in any of his other four seasons as a pro. Williams' 20 quarterback hits in 2023 are a strong indication he could get even better results in 2024.
