McMillan is expected to move into a starting role beginning Thursday against the Jets, Khari Thompson of Boston.com reports.
ANALYSIS
McMillan is slated to be the next man up at inside linebacker, as the Patriots are expected to be without Ja'Whaun Bentley (shoulder) for an extended time. The former has served a rotational role the last couple of seasons since he arrived in New England and hasn't played a near every-down role since his rookie and sophomore seasons in Miami.

The Dolphins tailored McMillan's defensive role in 2019 to minimize situations wherein his weakness in coverage would be exposed, resulting in the 24-year-old's quality of play increasing but his snap count sharply declining. It currently looks as though coach Brian Flores is unlikely to ever utilize McMillan as a three-down player unless he can improve his skills in coverage, which would minimize McMillan's individual statistics and fantasy value. If the former Ohio State star were able to develop and turn into an asset against the pass, however, his strong tackling abilities could lend him upside to rank among the league's tackle leaders.
