Dwelley made the Falcons' initial 53-man roster Tuesday, Terrin Waack of the Falcons' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Dwelley and Charlie Woerner signed similar contracts this offseason and will start the campaign as backups to Kyle Pitts. Dwelley played sparingly on offense in San Francisco, but he's a stout blocker and will be involved in Atlanta's running game, per Josh Kendall of The Athletic.

How often does Ross Dwelley run a route when on the field for a pass play?
This data will let you see how Ross Dwelley and the other tight ends for the Falcons are being used. Some tight ends may have a lot of snaps, but they're not that useful for fantasy purposes because they're not actually running routes. This data will help you see when this is the case.

This Week's Opposing Pass Defense
How does the Eagles pass defense compare to other NFL teams this season?
The bars represents the team's percentile rank (based on QB Rating Against). The longer the bar, the better their pass defense is. The team and position group ratings only include players that are currently on the roster and not on injured reserve. The list of players in the table only includes defenders with at least 3 attempts against them.

Dwelley re-signed in San Francisco after proving to be a reliable backup tight end through his first five years with the team. The 28-year-old filled in for George Kittle briefly last season, recording three receptions for 105 yards and a touchdown. With the drafting of Cameron Latu in this year's draft, Dwelley will have to fight for his usual backup role in 2023.
Dwelley took a back seat in 2020 after the team signed veteran tight end Jordan Reed to back up George Kittle. The third-year pro finished with 245 yards and a touchdown on 19 receptions while filling in for injured veterans. Dwelley was given a one-year extension to serve as Kittle's backup this year - following Reed's retirement - but he won't have much fantasy value unless the former goes down with an injury again.
Dwelley had a solid 2019 season backing up George Kittle, finishing with 15 receptions for 91 yards and a pair of touchdowns in 16 games. The 25-year-old's role may take a hit with the offseason signing of the talented, but oft-injured, Jordan Reed. Dwelley's superior run blocking could keep him on the field in certain heavy packages, but a healthy Reed will certainly keep the former's targets to a minimum in 2020.
Dwelley was barely a factor in his rookie season, seeing just 39 offensive snaps and catching two passes for 14 yards. 2019 is shaping up to be a different story. The 24-year-old has stood out in camp, putting himself in position to make the team as its third tight end. With current backup Garrett Celek dealing with an injury, Dwelley has a ceiling of second on the depth chart to begin the year.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Set for big role Sunday
TESan Francisco 49ers
November 16, 2019
Dwelley is expected to get the start again Sunday with George Kittle listed as doubtful due to knee and ankle injuries.
ANALYSIS
Dwelley started in place of Kittle last week and saw 80 snaps on offense but didn't make much impact as a receiver, catching three of seven targets for 24 yards. Sunday's matchup against the Cardinals -- by far the worst defense in the league against tight ends in 2019 -- gives the second-year player his best chance yet to show what he can do, however.
