Sauce Gardner

Sauce Gardner

24-Year-Old CornerbackCB
New York Jets
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Gardner has already established himself as arguably the best cornerback in the NFL, posting consecutive first team All-Pro seasons in his first two campaigns after being drafted fourth overall by the Jets in 2022. The Jets secondary is likely to remain elite with Gardner leading the way, but unfortunately for fantasy purposes, quarterbacks know Sauce's elite reputation and rarely test him. Gardner has only two career interceptions and dipped to 11 passes defensed in 2023 after leading the league with 20 as a rookie. Read Past Outlooks

Rarely challenged in second season
CBNew York Jets
January 14, 2024
Gardner finished 2023 with 57 tackles (41 solo) and 11 passes defensed.
ANALYSIS
Gardner's box score stats were less impressive in his second season compared to his rookie campaign -- when he led the league with 20 passes defensed -- but that was due primarily to a lack of opportunities, as opposing quarterbacks rarely challenged the standout cornerback. Gardner was a first-team All-Pro for the second time in as many years and is already the best cover corner in the NFL, though he'd like to add more interceptions to his ledger.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2023
2022
Gardner took home Defensive Rookie of the Year honors in 2022, as the fourth overall pick out of Cincinnati led the league with 20 passes defensed while adding 75 tackles (51 solo) and two interceptions. He will likely be a better player on the field than in fantasy in 2023, as opposing quarterbacks will be loath to throw in Sauce's direction after his standout rookie campaign. Gardner and fellow cornerback D.J. Reed figure to make life difficult on wide receivers again after the Jets allowed a league-low 1,857 yards to the position in 2022.
Gardner was drafted fourth overall by the Jets after going his entire college career in Cincinnati without allowing a touchdown. The rookie cornerback will try to follow in Darrelle Revis' footsteps, and Gardner will face a steep learning curve playing in the same division as star wide receivers Stefon Diggs and Tyreek Hill.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
High praise from Rodgers
CBNew York Jets
June 11, 2023
Gardner, who already nabbed Defensive Rookie of the Year, first-team All-Pro and Pro-Bowl honors in 2022, is labeled by new Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers as having a good chance of eventually developing into the top cornerback in the league, Christian Gonzales of NFL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gardner already recorded an NFL-high 20 defensed passes and a pair of interceptions in his first season, so it's certainly no stretch to envision him the clear-cut top player at his position, perhaps as soon as the conclusion of the coming campaign. Rodgers notes that communication between Gardner, top wideout Garrett Wilson and himself will help all three players, and that Gardner will be able to maximize his talents simply by going up against a wideout of Wilson's talent every day in practice.
