2024 Fantasy Outlook
Last year brought the end of Lockett's four-year streak of 1,000-yard seasons and five-year run with at least eight touchdowns, even though his 122 targets led Seattle and were the second most he's ever gotten in a season. A lot of the peripherals were nearly identical to 2022, including his slot rate (33.5 percent of snaps), target rate (22.4 percent of routes) and aDOT (10.8). The problem wasn't first-round pick Jaxon Smith-Njigba poaching volume -- more than one-third of the rookie's 93 targets were behind the line of scrimmage -- but rather a precipitous decline in Lockett's catch rate. After hauling in more than 68 percent of his targets five years running (including 71.8 percent in 2022), Lockett dropped to 64.8 percent in 2023. His yards per catch (11.3) went to a three-year low, and 7.3 YPT marked a career low for the 2015 third-round pick. The issue mostly was on passes 20-plus yards downfield, where Lockett went 5-for-24 after going 10-for-19 in 2022 and 20-for-39 in 2021 (5-for-16 in 2020 back when he played the slot more). Maybe that was just the inevitable happening a year late after Geno Smith took over for Russell Wilson under center, or maybe it was the first major sign of decline for a wideout who celebrated his 31st birthday in September. Either way, the Seahawks and Lockett renegotiated the final two years of his contract this offseason, with $34 million in compensation dropping to $30 million in exchange for a guarantee for 2024 and the ability to make back the other $4 million via incentives. The offense he's returning to looks quite similar, with Smith throwing passes to Lockett, Smith-Njigba, DK Metcalf, TE Noah Fant and RBs Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet. Read Past Outlooks

Just two targets in win
Lockett totaled 15 yards on two receptions (two targets) in Sunday's 23-20 overtime win versus the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
Lockett was seemingly left out of the gameplan while DK Metcalf and Jaxon Smith-Njigba combined for 246 yards on 30 targets. There's no doubt Lockett still has a role in this offense, especially considering how he paced the team with 77 receiving yards in the opener. However, Smith-Njigba's emergence in Week 2 has Lockett trending toward the No. 3 wideout role.

Lockett was supposed to take a huge step back last year without Russell Wilson but instead made it five seasons in a row with at least 1,000 scrimmage yards and eight touchdowns, helping QB Geno Smith earn Comeback Player of the Year honors. The 30-year-old drew 24 fewer targets than running mate DK Metcalf while playing one fewer game, yet had nearly the same number of receiving yards and three more TDs. While it seems inevitable that Metcalf eventually becomes a true No. 1 rather than a co-No. 1, it failed to materialize the last two seasons when the younger Seattle wideout was drafted rounds ahead of the elder statesmen in fantasy leagues. It becomes more and more likely with each passing year, perhaps, but there were no real signs of decline from Lockett in 2022 and the addition of first-round pick Jaxon Smith-Njigba (who figures to play the slot) won't automatically hurt him. Lockett has split time between the perimeter and slot throughout his career, and it's been a mixed bag in terms of where his production is better. Last year, Lockett had 1.66 yards per route in the slot and 2.14 otherwise, getting 42 percent of his routes and 45 percent of his targets inside but accumulating only two of his nine TDs and 35 percent of his yardage there.

May be headed to open market
Lockett could be cut by the Seahawks this offseason, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Lockett has been a key player in the Seattle offense since the 2018 season, but his production took a notable dip in 2023. He posted a career-worst 7.3 yards per target and also averaged his lowest yards per game since the 2017 campaign. Lockett is set to have a cap hit of $26.9 million in both 2024 and 2025, and the team could save a combined $34 million in cap space by designating him a post-June 1 cut.
