Vince Whaley

29-Year-Old Golfer
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Whaley was 222nd at the beginning of the FedExCup Fall, but a 6-for-6 close to the season with a trio of top-15s was good enough to just sneak inside the Top 150 and secure conditional status for the 2024 season. Whaley has always been a solid driver of the ball, but his putting was red hot during that fall stretch. The Georgia Tech product is still just 28 years old and clearly has some skills to work with. He'll be limited in the number of starts he'll be able to make, but a few top-10s and Whaley might be able to play his way to full status for 2025. Read Past Outlooks
Top-5 finish in Bermuda
November 19, 2024
Whaley fired a three-under 68 on Sunday at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship to finish 14-under and tied for fifth place.
ANALYSIS
Whaley carded only five bogeys all week en route to consistent rounds of 67-68-67-68 in Bermuda, where he ranked T3 among the field in scrambling and T7 in GIR percentage. It was clutch timing for his second top-5 result of the season, improving to 113th in the FedExCup Fall standings ahead of the finale at Sea Island this week, where he tied for 13th at last year's RSM Classic.

Whaley made the playoffs for the first time in his three seasons on Tour, although his only top-10 finishes were both in alternate field events. His ball striking is a main detriment as he ranked just 177th in strokes-gained approach and is wildly inaccurate off-the-tee despite just slightly above-average length. It's hard to see him making any strides as a result.
Whaley posted five top-25s during his second season on the PGA Tour, but he ultimately fell shy of the FedExCup Playoffs and was forced to retain status via the Korn Ferry Tour Finals where he notched a pair of top-10s in late August. During his 2020-21 campaign, Whaley made the cut in 10 consecutive starts from the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am through the Charles Schwab Challenge as he gained popularity among the daily fantasy community before cooling off in June and July. He ended the season just 178th in SG: approach, however.
Whaley missed the cut or withdrew in 60 percent of his appearances throughout a rookie campaign that was highlighted by a top-10 showing at the Puerto Rico Open. The Georgia Tech product, who finished 183rd in the FedEx Cup standings, relied too heavily on his putter as he ranked 49th in SG: Putting, but just 198th in SG: Approach and 165th in proximity. On the bright side, he ended his first regular season on Tour with a top-40 at the Wyndham Championship to provide a small spark ahead of the upcoming fall series.
Whaley enjoyed quite a successful maiden campaign as a professional on the Korn Ferry Tour as he made 15 of 23 cuts and gathered top-3 finishes at the Bahamas Great Abaco Classic and the Lincoln Land Championship to ultimately round out the Regular Season Points List at No. 25 as he'll already advance to the PGA Tour. The Georgia Tech product averaged 310.2 yards off the tee and ranked 17th in par-5 birdie or better percentage, but he also finished the season top-50 in putting average. Whaley has plenty of experience playing at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, but eventually qualifying for the 2020 TOUR Championship is just a dream at this point.
