Vela has officially joined LAFC on a contract until the end of the 2024 MLS season, the club announced Monday. The deal also includes a club option for 2025.
ANALYSIS
Vela returns to LAFC as one of the most decorated players in MLS history and the club's all-time leader in games played (152), minutes (11,194), goals (78) and assists (59). He's not expected to become a starter right away, but he should figure decent minutes off the bench if needed.

Vela wants to keep playing for a few more years before retiring, according to MLS Soccer.
ANALYSIS
The ex-Arsenal and Real Sociedad player wants to play for "a couple of years" more before retiring. "I want to take some time to rest, but I want to come back, and I want to do better because this is special, the first [MLS Cup title for LAFC]," Vela said. "But if you get more, you can say, okay, I can retire now. So maybe one more, two more and I retire. So take me for a couple of years." Vela is the all-time leading scorer of LAFC.
