2024 Fantasy Outlook
For the first time in around seven years, there are significant questions about Heyward's ability to impact an opposing offense. He played all but 20 snaps of the 2023 season at less than full strength after suffering a groin injury in Week 1, which caused him to miss the Steelers' next six games. Given that context, it wouldn't be wise to take his downturn in production last season solely on face value. However, Heyward is now entering his age-35 season, so it's fair to ask whether father time has caught up to him. It's also worth noting that Heyward held out of OTAs while seeking a new contract, though unless he's prepared to retire prior to the 2024 season if he doesn't receive an extension, he holds little leverage over the team. Reaches new deal
Heyward re-signed with the Steelers on a three-year deal Tuesday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Heyward was entering the final year of his deal but will now be tied to the team through the 2026 season. While the 35-year-old is coming off one of the worst seasons of his career -- he recorded just 2.0 sacks -- he will look to return to his previous form during the upcoming campaign.

Heyward tallied double-digit sacks for a second consecutive season last year, topping 70 tackles in three of the last four years. Entering his 13th season, the 34-year-old Heyward has played at least 15 games every season but one. While Father Time will presumably catch up at some point, Heyward has remained productive, especially when offensive lines also have to account for T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Extension talks ongoing
Heyward and the Steelers are discussing a potential contract extension, but the team won't continue talks once the regular season begins, Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
The veteran defensive end is a free agent after this season and threatened to skip OTAs back in the spring, but Heyward wound up participating in the whole offseason program. Originally a first-round pick in 2011, Heyward has spent his entire career in Pittsburgh and is hoping to finish it with the team as well. The 35-year-old stated over the summer that he would like to keep playing through 2026, but given his age he may have to settle for a series of one-year deals rather than getting an extension from the Steelers covering that period.
