2024 Fantasy Outlook
A third-round pick in last year’s draft, Hooker spent most of his rookie season recovering from an ACL injury from November 2022. He was finally healthy enough to suit up as the emergency No. 3 QB the final three regular-season games and in the playoffs, though he never took a snap. Jared Goff, who signed a contract extension this offseason after leading the Lions to the NFC championship game, is secure as the starter, but Hooker should take over the backup spot this season. Hooker, 26, has a strong arm, though perhaps not elite, and should regain most of his mobility and athleticism post-injury. At 6-4, 208, Hooker has prototypical QB size, and the Lions offer a strong supporting cast. It’s an intriguing setup should Hooker be pressed into action. Read Past Outlooks

Hooker looks to have won the No. 2 QB job following Nate Sudfeld's release Tuesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The Lions could try to bring Sudfeld back after cutdown day as either a member of the 53-man roster or practice squad, but the willingness to risk losing him hints at Hooker moving up on the depth chart. While Sudfeld worked ahead of the Tennessee product throughout the preseason, Hooker ultimately performed at a higher level, completing 29 of 44 passes (65.9 percent) for 300 yards, one touchdown and one interception, with 19 carries for 138 yards and another score. His impressive rushing stats suggest the 2023 third-round pick would at least have value in two-QB and Superflex leagues if he got a chance to fill in for Jared Goff. Hooker might even be useful in one-QB formats, combining mobility with superb team context under offensive coordinator Ben Johnson.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
Hooker might be the quarterback of the future in Detroit, but the Tennessee product has long odds of seeing the field as a rookie. Not only is Jared Goff cemented atop the depth chart, Hooker -- who coach Dan Campbell said is headed toward a "redshirt" year -- is recovering from a torn ACL he suffered in November 2022 and doesn't have a clear timetable to resume full activities. However, the Lions have minimal commitments to Goff once the season is done, giving Hooker at least a slight chance to compete for a starting gig in 2024.
