TELos Angeles Rams
November 14, 2024
Long played nine of the Rams' 70 offensive snaps and finished without a target in Monday's 23-15 loss to the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
Long ranked third among Los Angeles tight ends in playing time, trailing Davis Allen (56 snaps) and Colby Parkinson (11 snaps). Though he's held a modest role for much of the season, Long had recorded at least one reception in each of the past four games before seeing that streak come to an end Monday. Long should continue to remain the Rams' third tight end Sunday at New England, but he could be at risk of moving to the inactive list if/when Tyler Higbee (knee) is cleared to return from the PUP list.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2023
2022
2021
Acquired in the trade that sent Jalen Ramsey to Miami, the second-year bruiser spent the vast majority of his snaps for the Dolphins as a blocker, and saw just one target over 101 snaps in 2022. Tyler Higbee and Brycen Hopkins are entrenched as the starting tight ends, and the Rams rarely utilized any depth tight ends (29 total snaps outside the starting two tight ends in 2022), which leaves little hope for Long to make much of an impact in Year 3.
To say Long underwhelmed as a rookie would be an understatement, as the 2021 third-round pick managed just one eight-yard catch in seven appearances. It's important to note the context that Long suffered a serious injury in training camp, and that tight ends often fail to produce as rookies even when healthy. Still, with Mike Gesicki an Durham Smythe both having re-signed, Long's path to a role Year 2 remains unclear.
Tight ends are rarely productive as rookies, and Long may have little opportunity in 2021 behind clear No. 1 option Mike Gesicki. However, Gesicki and No. 2 option Durham Smythe are both entering the final year of their rookie deals. After impressing as a receiver at Boston College, Long could see significant future opportunity if Gesicki isn't signed long-term.

Could join Jaguars
TEFree Agent
April 30, 2021
In his 2021 Day Two draft projection, Steve Muench of Scouts Inc. suggests that the Jaguars could take Long 45th overall.
ANALYSIS
The Jaguars declined Tyler Eifert's contract option and could use a another pass-catching option at tight end to bolster the supporting cast of top overall pick, QB Trevor Lawrence. Per Muench, Long, a Boston College product, "has the speed and frame to make plays down the seam, plus he has some upside as an open-field runner after the catch."
