Keaton Mitchell

22-Year-Old Running BackRB
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Few players' 2023 seasons were as anguishing to witness as Mitchell's, because the feel-good story of the undersized, undrafted speed demon who rose to improbable stardom gave way to the story of Mitchell's gruesome, season-ending knee injury. Although reported as a mere ACL tear, Mitchell's injury looked much worse than that and may ultimately be revealed to have entailed additional damage. The timing of the injury (Dec. 17) presents him with a challenge to be ready for Week 1, and even if that happens he'll just be a change-of-pace runner behind offseason addition Derrick Henry. No role in offense yet
RBBaltimore Ravens
November 18, 2024
Mitchell did not get a touch on two offensive snaps Sunday against the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
The Ravens continue to slow-play Mitchell's reintroduction to the offense. Through two games, Mitchell has zero touches on three offensive snaps. He's been involved in the kick return game, but his role in the offense has been minimal since returning from a significant knee injury last December. The Ravens have two more games before the bye -- at the Chargers in Week 12 and home against the Eagles in Week 13 -- so it's possible that Mitchell will start to get more involved down the stretch. In the meantime, though, Mitchell is buried on the running back depth chart.

How does the Chargers pass defense compare to other NFL teams this season?
The bars represents the team's percentile rank (based on QB Rating Against). The longer the bar, the better their pass defense is. The team and position group ratings only include players that are currently on the roster and not on injured reserve. 2023 Fantasy Outlook
An undrafted free agent out of East Carolina, Mitchell signed on with the Ravens this spring and it was an interesting fit that seemed to put him in position to crack the roster with a good camp. Mitchell has some legitimate talent; he averaged 6.9 yards per carry over his final two seasons at East Carolina (375 attempts) and was a threat in the passing game as well with 49 catches on 68 targets for 505 yards. Shortly before training camp, though, Baltimore added veteran Melvin Gordon to the backfield. Whereas Mitchell once looked like he only had to beat out Justice Hill for the final running back spot on the roster, now it would likely take some tough injury luck elsewhere in the backfield for Mitchell to open the year anywhere but the practice squad. He has the type of speed (4.37) and pass-catching ability to bolster some deep dynasty value, but his chances of making an impact in 2023 are minimal.

Still on track for November return
RBBaltimore Ravens
October 1, 2024
Mitchell is nearing a return to practice, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Unlike other running backs returning from knee injuries such as Nick Chubb and Jonathon Brooks, there haven't been reports that Mitchell will return to practice in the upcoming week. Nevertheless, he remains in line to return in early November, a timeline that was originally laid out during the preseason. It's not clear what role Mitchell will return to however, as Derrick Henry has been dominant of late and Justice Hill has served as an effective change-of-pace back, particularly as a pass catcher.
