2024 Fantasy Outlook
Herbert is a useful enough player, but by now it's clear he won't develop into a standout or a three-down back. Herbert is perhaps an above-average pure runner, averaging 4.9 yards on 364 career carries, but he's caught just 43 passes through three seasons at a yield of 4.9 yards per target. Efficiency as a runner is nice, but it rarely translates for fantasy if the player isn't catching passes or getting goal-line carries. That's especially true now that the Bears have signed a superior talent, D'Andre Swift, who becomes a clear favorite to lead the backfield in both carries and targets. Swift's injury history suggests he probably won't be tasked with massive snap counts, but even then it might be 2023 fourth-round pick Roschon Johnson picking up as much or more of the slack then Herbert. Plays four offensive snaps in loss
Herbert failed to record a single rushing attempt or target in Sunday's 34-27 loss to the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
Herbert was not a part of the Bengals' offensive game plan Sunday, as the veteran running back still has yet to see a single touch on offense for Cincinnati. Herbert did, however, gain 29 yards on his only kick return in the contest. It's possible that the 26-year-old may still be taking time to get acclimated into the Bengals' offense, but it is surprising to see such limited playing time for a player that the Bengals traded for ahead of the trade deadline. Meanwhile, fellow running back Chase Brown has continued to see a massive workload as Cincinnati's lead back. Herbert will look to get more involved in the offense when the Bengals come out of their Week 12 bye to face the Steelers on Dec. 1.

Bears RB D'Andre Swift had another solid fantasy line thanks to a long TD run, but he may run into trouble the next few weeks with Roschon Johnson seemingly more involved in the offense under a new playcaller.
DK Metcalf's return didn't slow down Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who came through huge for both fantasy managers and the Seahawks. RW's Jerry Donabedian has the full scoop from Sunday.
The Chargers might not throw much by design, but if the Bengals offense scores quickly then Ladd McConkey might be busy as the Chargers try to keep pace.
Past Fantasy Outlooks

2022
2021
Herbert probably won't emerge as three-down back for the Bears, due both to competition in the backfield (D'Onta Foreman, Travis Homer, Roschon Johnson) and because Herbert has never demonstrated much passing-down acumen. Herbert is definitely a slippery runner, though – he's been as much with the Bears through two seasons, rushing for 1,164 yards and six touchdowns on 232 carries (5.0 YPC). He consistently stood out as a runner for Virginia Tech and Kansas in college, too. With that said, if Herbert can't improve his passing-down skills he won't be on the field often enough to take full advantage of his definite running skills. The 235-pound Foreman is convincing as a pure runner himself, and notably offers a clearer power element than Herbert, who is more elusive than brutish at 212 pounds. Perhaps as important, Homer and Johnson are probably superior passing-down options. Herbert is one of those players who usually does something useful once he gets the ball; his challenge is simply securing the necessary snap count to create that opportunity.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Acquired as backup
Herbert was acquired by the Bengals to take some of the backfield burden off Chase Brown, Paul Denher Jr. of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The Bengals lost Zack Moss for the rest of the regular season with a neck injury, leaving them with very little depth behind Brown. Herbert is not expected to challenge for the lead-back role, something coach Zac Taylor made clear in his comments Tuesday. He suggested Herbert could be in line for a handful of carries per game, while Denher believes that Herbert will also get onto the field in passing-down situations.
