Barely contributes as rookie
McCaffrey finished the 2024 regular season with 18 catches for 168 yards on 24 targets, then was held without a catch on one target in three playoff appearances.
ANALYSIS
The 2024 third-round pick started his career playing around half of Washington's snaps on offense, but he struggled to draw targets or make big plays and was getting less than one-fourth of the snaps by December/January. While his failure to emerge as a regular starter isn't a good sign for future productivity, McCaffrey may get another shot at the No. 3 receiver role in 2025, as he and Terry McLaurin are the only Washington wide receivers under contract.

2024 Fantasy Outlook
Recruited to Nebraska as a quarterback, McCaffrey transferred to Rice in 2021, converted to wide receiver in 2022 and then did enough over the next two seasons to become a third-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. It was a bit of a surprise to see him go that early, though perhaps it shouldn't have been in light of his first-rate NFL bloodlines (Ed's son and Christian's brother). After catching 129 passes for 1,715 yards and 19 TDs over the past two seasons, McCaffrey heads to the NFL as a 23-year-old rookie on a team with poor WR depth behind Terry McLaurin. McCaffrey's numbers from the combine - including a 4.46 40 at 6-2, 196 pounds - suggest his athleticism is at least adequate for an NFL wideout, so he won't automatically be limited to the slot. That might be his best shot at Year 1 playing time, however, especially after the Commanders traded Jahan Dotson to Philadelphia in August.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could be Commanders' WR2 for Week 5
McCaffery could slide into the No. 2 wide receiver spot behind Terry McLaurin after Noah Brown was ruled out for Sunday's game against Cleveland due to a groin injury, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
McCaffrey has seen his snap count dip slightly over the past two regular-season games, but he should see an uptick in playing time in Week 5 with Brown sidelined. McCaffrey has caught all seven of his targets for 79 yards through the first four games of the year, but he should get some additional looks from quarterback Jayden Daniels if the Browns' secondary hones in on McLaurin.
