Suspension
November 11, 2024
The NFL reinstated Edwards from his four-game suspension Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Edwards was suspended Oct. 14 for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, but he's since served his time and missed the Texans' last four contests. The veteran defensive lineman recorded 18 total tackles, including 2.0 sacks, and one pass defended through six appearances before his suspension. He's expected to play in Sunday's matchup against the Cowboys, but he must still be activated to the Texans' active roster in order to suit up.

Entering his eighth NFL season, Edwards has been a rotational player for most of his career. As a result, he's averaged less than a tackle per game over the last four years, and he'll have little fantasy value in the majority of IDP leagues.
Edwards is entering his seventh season in the league and second with the Bears after setting a career high with four sacks as a rotational player who played 282 snaps. He's expected to continue providing depth behind Akiem Hicks and Bilal Nichols, though his career production indicates he lacks upside for IDP leagues.
In signing with the Saints on Mar. 15, Edwards joined his third team in as many years, after initially going to Oakland as the No. 35 overall pick in 2015 and spending his first three seasons with the Silver and Black. The Florida State product was mostly a starter with the Raiders (24 starts out of 30 appearances), but fielded just 21.2 percent of the defensive snaps while playing for the Giants in 2018, logging zero starts in 15 appearances. He hasn't yet delivered on the playmaking ability he exhibited during college, failing to exceed 3.5 sacks in any pro season, and averaging fewer than four tackles for loss per 16 games for his career.
Edwards managed to appear in 14 games throughout the 2017 season after his 2016 campaign was shortened to just two contests, but his roster spot could be up for grabs after the Raiders selected a trio of talented defensive linemen in P.J. Hall, Arden Key and Maurice Hurst during the draft.
A hip injury sustained in mid-August prior to the regular season kept Edwards on IR until Week 16, when the Raiders activated him for the team's final two contests. After a rookie campaign in which he racked up 42 tackles, two sacks, and three forced fumbles, Edwards' second year in the league was certainly overshadowed by the sprained hip. He figures to be back at full strength in 2017, starting at defensive end across from Defensive Player of the Year Khalil Mack.
Though a neck injury prevented Edwards from participating in a large portion of the Raiders' offseason program, he is reportedly 100 percent recovered and is showing well during the onset of training camp. As a rookie, Edwards lined up at both defensive end and linebacker, totaling 41 tackles and 2.5 sacks on the year. As part of an ascending Raiders defensive unit, Edwards is poised to improve upon his rookie-year stat line.
The Raiders selected Edwards in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft, 35th overall out of Florida State. Edwards is a versatile defensive lineman that can play both tackle and end, and it's likely that the Raiders' will move him around throughout the preseason to find out where he fits best. He should see a solid amount of playing time right from the start and could be great addition to an already improved Raiders' defense.

ANALYSIS
The 30-year-old defensive end has played for six different teams over nine NFL seasons and spent last year with the Seahawks, recording two sacks among his 21 tackles over 15 games. Edwards could provide some depth on the edge behind Will Anderson, Danielle Hunter and Denico Autry as part of what figures to be an elite pass rush in 2024.
