Ronnie Harrison

27-Year-Old SafetyS
Indianapolis Colts
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Harrison spent most of his time at linebacker last season (135 of his 234 defensive snaps came in the box), but he will transition back to safety for the 2024 season. Harrison spent the first 11 weeks of last season on the Indianapolis practice squad, and shortly after being called up to the active roster he was asked to switch positions to middle linebacker following the release of Shaquille Leonard. Harrison tallied 20 total tackles, two interceptions and one sack in seven regular-season games in 2023. He'll compete for the starting strong safety role, but could continue to be a valuable reserve at multiple positions. Read Past Outlooks

Harrison was signed to the Colts' 53-man roster from their practice squad Monday.
ANALYSIS
Harrison's move to the active roster comes as Indianapolis placed fellow safety Trevor Denbow (knee) on IR. The veteran will likely fill a depth role behind starters Julian Blackmon and Nick Cross but mostly contribute on special teams.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2020
2019
It's not the greatest sign that Harrison has earned such poor run defense grades from PFF in his two NFL seasons - sub-50.0 in both cases - but his tackle volume has been decent enough for IDP purposes anyway. Playing 1,172 defensive snaps through 28 games, he has 103 career tackles to go with three sacks, three interceptions and 12 passes defended. Harrison at least has been good in coverage, which should preserve his workload even if he never improves in run defense. As long as he plays a three-down role, he should offer some IDP utility. To this point, his per-snap production would project to roughly 88 tackles, 2.5 sacks and three interceptions per 1,000 snaps.
A third-round pick out of Alabama last year, Harrison should step into a three-down role in his second season and as a result makes the short list of breakout candidates among defensive back IDPs. Safeties Barry Church and Tashaun Gipson are both gone, giving Harrison an opportunity for 1,000-plus snaps in 2019. With standout college production on a dominant Alabama defense, Harrison has upside both for tackles and turnovers, and more opportunities opened on both fronts with the announcement of tackle machine Telvin Smith taking a hiatus from the Jaguars.

Competing to start at safety
SIndianapolis Colts
August 6, 2024
Harrison is competing with Nick Cross to start at free safety for the Colts to begin the season, Stephen Holder of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Harrison played primarily as a linebacker in 2023, as 135 of his 234 defensive snaps came inside the box. However, the Colts are concerned about the inconsistency of Cross, leading them to look for other solutions. Holder also notes that the team could look to outside options if neither Cross nor Harrison can show consistency.
