Tank Dell

Tank Dell

24-Year-Old Wide ReceiverWR
Houston Texans
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Dell lasted until 69th overall in last year's draft despite topping 1,300 receiving yards both of his final two seasons at Houston. It's now clear teams made a mistake passing on him, though it was understandable at the time given his combine measurements (5-8, 165), 40 time (4.49) and age (turned 24 during his rookie season). Dell quickly silenced those concerns, earning the Texans' No. 3 receiver job out of the gate and combining for 217 yards and two TDs in Weeks 2-3. A Week 5 concussion cost him a game and a half, but the rookie came back strong after a bye to average 5.6 catches for 77.0 yards and 1.0 TD on 9.4 targets in Weeks 8-12. During that time, Dell maintained a steady diet of short, intermediate and deep targets, proving to be much more than just a slot guy or screen/YAC threat. In fact, he was targeted behind the line of scrimmage just once all season and finished 15th among WRs (200-route minimum) with a 14.2 aDOT. Unfortunately, he broke his fibula early in Houston's Week 13 contest and missed the rest of the season. His nine full games yielded seven touchdowns, along with averages of 4.9 catches for 72.4 yards on 7.9 targets. Fellow Texans wideout Nico Collins had even better numbers, though Dell was more productive in the weeks leading up to his season-ending injury. Things look promising in 2024 for the Houston offense, with Dell returning for spring practices and joined by both Collins and offseason trade acquisition Stefon Diggs. The wealth of WR talent creates questions regarding target share, but an offense engineered by coordinator Bobby Slowik and QB C.J. Stroud may have the necessary passing volume and efficiency to keep everyone happy. Read Past Outlooks

Struggling in crowded WR room
WRHouston Texans
September 15, 2024
Dell caught one of four targets for minus-3 yards and rushed three times for 16 yards in Sunday's 19-13 win over the Bears.
ANALYSIS
Dell got behind Chicago's defense in the third quarter but had a well-thrown ball bounce off his hands. The second-year wide receiver has had trouble recapturing the magic from his rookie year early in 2024 while ceding the majority of targets to Nico Collins and Stefon Diggs. Dell will look to get back on track in Week 3 against the Vikings.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
The Texans traded up in the third round of the 2023 draft to take Dell (69th overall). His nickname ("Tank") didn't come from his frame; the University of Houston product is listed at 5-10 and 165 pounds, which may limit him to slot duty in the NFL. At that size, Dell needs to be quicker than opponents and make plays. He led the nation in receiving yards (1,398) and touchdowns (17) in 2022 and scored 32 TDs during his collegiate career. Mid-round receivers rarely make a fantasy impact out of the gate, but the Texans aren't deep at wideout, so Dell has a shot at playing time. He could also land as the primary returner, a role he handled in rookie camp.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Extols Stroud's virtues
WRHouston Texans
July 5, 2024
Dell recently lauded quarterback C.J. Stroud during an appearance on the I Am Athlete podcast, stating his belief that his teammate has the talent to eventually become the best quarterback in the NFL, Kevin Patra of NFL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Dell unsurprisingly had plenty of accolades for Stroud, who helped facilitate plenty of individual success for the talented receiver during their mutual rookie 2023 campaigns. Dell recorded a 47-709-7 line on 75 targets through 11-plus regular-season games before suffering a season-ending leg injury, and he noted in his podcast interview that Stroud's consistency, work ethic, leadership and talent give the young signal-caller a chance to eventually rise to the elite level of the Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes.
