2024 Fantasy Outlook
Benson fell to the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft in part because of durability concerns related to a brutal multi-ligament knee tear at Oregon at the end of the 2020 season. He came back strong at Florida State in 2022 and 2023 to play 26 consecutive games and score 24 touchdowns, though his upright running style invites big hits at times. Beyond those concerns, Benson is close to blue-chip across most considerations. Few runners combine home run speed with standout raw power, but Benson showed both traits at FSU and then confirmed it at the Combine with a 4.39 40 at 6-0, 216. He was immensely explosive as a mid-volume, high-efficiency runner for the Seminoles, averaging 6.1 yards on 316 carries across two seasons, so he could make an impact in Arizona coming out of the bullpen behind James Conner. Conner had one of his best seasons in 2023 and won't be pushed aside easily, but his extensive injury history gives reason to project a start or two for Benson in an improving Arizona offense. ANALYSIS
Benson hasn't practiced this week after exiting early from Arizona's Week 15 win over the Patriots. With fellow backup running back Emari Demercado (back) on injured reserve, DeeJay Dallas figures to step in behind James Conner, who projects for a huge share of Arizona's backfield snaps and touches.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Path to starting in 2025 blocked
RBArizona Cardinals
December 1, 2024
Benson is poised to remain in a backup role in 2025, as Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that James Conner signed a two-year, $19 million extension with the Cardinals on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
When Benson was drafted in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, it seemed like he was well positioned to grow into a starting role in 2025 after backing up Conner in 2024, as Conner was set to become an unrestricted free agent. Instead, the 29-year-old Conner is set to return to Arizona, while Benson has struggled to carve out a prominent role as a rookie. Benson has just 56 carries for 254 yards and one touchdown in his first 11 games.
