2024 Fantasy Outlook
Chandler had a big game against Cincinnati in Week 15 last year, turning 23 carries into 132 yards and one touchdown, and with that showing the 2022 fifth-round pick may have bought himself a ticket to back up Aaron Jones this upcoming season. Chandler is a bit thinner than most running backs (5-11, 204) and doesn't have great vision or instincts, but his 4.38 speed and decent hands make him a useful player all the same. It won't be surprising if he has a significant role from the jump this year, considering Jones has a lengthy track record of injuries -- especially to his right knee -- and often ceded a lot of work to other backs during his time in Green Bay. The competition for roles behind Jones is far from fierce, with Chandler joined by a trio of running backs (Kene Nwangwu, Myles Gaskin, DeWayne McBride) that had five total carries last year. RANKS
Outperforms Jones in win
Chandler rushed 10 times for 82 yards in the Vikings' 23-17 win over the 49ers on Sunday. He was also sacked on a pass attempt.
ANALYSIS
Chandler blew backfield mate Aaron Jones away in production, as he outgained the veteran back by a full 50 rushing yards on just one additional carry. Chandler's lack of involvement in the passing game wasn't ideal, but considering he recorded three receptions Week 1 and 21 last season in part-time duty, his absence from the air attack is likely just a one-game outlier. Chandler's explosiveness combined with the desire to keep Jones fresh throughout the long season, and the latter's fumble at the shadow of the goal line Sunday should help lock in another solid role for Chandler in Week 3 against the Texans.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2023
2022
Chandler, a 2022 fifth-round pick, is an enticing prospect with a 4.38 40 but barely saw the field last season. He had six carries on 12 snaps (no targets). That could change this year after Dalvin Cook was released in June. Alexander Mattison is the new starter, and Chandler will compete with Kene Nwangwu and Myles Gaskin for backup snaps. Perhaps that opens the door for Chandler to be the main backup to Mattison.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could form one-two punch with Jones
Chandler has impressed in minicamp, and Vikings defensive tackle Harrison Phillips believes Chandler has the skill to work in a timeshare with Aaron Jones, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports. "I see us as having a one-two punch at running back," Phillips said of Chandler and Jones. "I don't know if that's what's happening on the offensive side, but I know that we have two true No. 1 running backs. I'd buy stock in Ty Chandler if I could."
ANALYSIS
Chandler spent most of his first two NFL seasons in a backup role but played well as a starter over the final four games of 2023, rushing for 258 yards and two touchdowns while adding 69 receiving yards over that span. Jones is expected to open the season atop the depth chart after signing a one-year, $7 million contract with the Vikings in free agency, but Minnesota's coaching staff could opt for more of a platoon between the 26-year-old Chandler and the 29-year-old Jones.
