Isiah Pacheco

25-Year-Old Running BackRB
Kansas City Chiefs
2024 Fantasy Outlook
The Chiefs are careful to consistently invest in their offensive line, allowing them to provide consistently good blocking and a favorable setup for whoever is playing running back. Even so, Pacheco has proven a uniquely good fit for the Chiefs offense since they stole him out of Rutgers in the seventh round of the 2022 Draft. His 4.37 speed makes him a home-run threat, and his violent, high-motor running presents a challenging power component to defenses that are already spread thin by QB Patrick Mahomes. Pacheco's violent running does come with long-term durability concerns, especially wear-and-tear ailments like the shoulder trouble he played through in 2023, though injuries have cost him only two games through two seasons. He can handle every running back task and improved his passing-down work last year, eventually taking at least 70 percent of snaps in each of Kansas City's four playoff contests. His workloads typically haven't been that large during the regular season, but it's not out of the question for 2024 after the Chiefs settled for bringing back Clyde Edwards-Helaire in free agency and then added Samaje Perine shortly before the start of the season. RBKansas City Chiefs
December 21, 2024
Pacheco had nine carries for 26 yards while catching one of two targets for minus-1 yard in Saturday's 27-19 win over the Texans.
ANALYSIS
Pacheco got the majority of touches in Kansas City's backfield early on but didn't find much success, so Kareem Hunt got more involved as the game went along. Hunt was far more effective, producing 79 scrimmage yards and a touchdown on 11 carries and three targets. Pacheco's still searching for his first score since Week 1, though a fractured fibula suffered in Week 2 has limited him to only six appearances this season. Hunt and Pacheco will likely continue to split carries against the Steelers on Christmas.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2023
2022
Pacheco probably wouldn't be as good in other offenses, but the Kansas City scheme fit like a glove last year and helped him average 4.9 yards on 170 regular-season carries as a seventh-round pick turned rookie starter. Like Damien Williams on the previous KC championship team, Pacheco thrives without great vision because the offense mostly demands speed and anchor from a running back. Runners normally need vision to decipher the field and locate openings that might not be obvious. In the Chiefs offense, though, it's usually obvious because Patrick Mahomes keeps the safeties back and a standout offensive line blasts openings underneath. Once space is created, Pacheco has the size (5-11, 215), strength and speed (4.37 40) to take advantage. He should continue producing as the lead runner in a pass-first offense, but he'll need more targets to reach the next level as a fantasy asset after seeing only 21 in 20 games (including playoffs) last season. The Chiefs didn't draft a running back or sign any noteworthy veterans, opting to run it back with Pacheco, Jerick McKinnon and Clyde Edwards-Helaire.
After posting lackluster numbers at Rutgers the last four years, Pacheco could prove to be one of the steals of the 2022 Draft. He has the frame of an NFL starter at 5-10, 216, and his 4.37 40 time at the combine suggests he can do damage if his offensive line creates open space. Pacheco may have picked up some bad habits in college working behind a brutal Rutgers O- line, and he'll have to show he has the patience necessary to let plays develop, but the combination of size and speed makes him more compelling than the typical seventh-round pick. It doesn't hurt to land in Kansas City, home of a high-powered offense led by QB Patrick Mahomes and a mediocre RB depth chart led by Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Ronald Jones. Reports out of camp have been positive, and Pacheco even got a few snaps with the first-team offense in KC's first two preseason games.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
IR activation imminent
RBKansas City Chiefs
November 27, 2024
Pacheco, who's missed the last nine games with a fractured right fibula, is expected to be activated from injured reserve in time to play in Friday's game against the Raiders, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Head coach Andy Reid stated Wednesday that Pacheco would be activated as long as he felt good coming out of the day's practice. Pacheco put in full practices both Tuesday and Wednesday, his first unrestricted sessions since having his practice window opened back on Nov. 12. If Pacheco suits up as expected, he might be on some sort of snap limit, especially considering Kareem Hunt's availability as a very viable complementary option.
